BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham police say a 2-year-old boy has died after a shooting at an apartment complex in Collegeville Wednesday morning.
Officials have identified the boy as Ke’Anthony Jelks, Jr.
The child’s great grandmother says the boy found a gun and accidentally shot himself.
Police arrived at the scene on 31st Street North around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
According to the gun violence archive, he is the twelfth child to die by a gun in Alabama this year. Fourteen other children suffered injuries.
Authorities say the investigation into the boy’s death continues as they work to confirm what happened in this incident.
