Mother who inspired ‘The Blind Side’ talks continued effort to find forever homes for foster children

Full Interview: Leigh Anne Tuohy

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Many of you are familiar with the movie, The Blind Side, where an affluent white family in Memphis adopts an African-American teenager Michael Oher, who later gets recruited by every big-name SEC coach, plays at Ole Miss, and eventually the NFL, where he just recently retired.

The adoptive mother, Leigh Anne Tuohy, played by Sandra Bullock in the movie, continues their efforts to get foster children adopted as this is National Adoption Month.

Mrs. Tuohy was in town Thursday, speaking at the Florentine, for the Emma’s Circle luncheon to benefit CASA of Alabama, an organization whose mission is to meet the needs of children caught in the Family Court system by way of abuse and neglect.

After the luncheon, she spoke with us about those continuing efforts now to get foster children forever homes and why she thinks the author of The Blind Side called her a Warrior Princess.

Plus, how much of the movie was accurate to what really happened, and did she really find Nick Saban “incredibly attractive”?
