BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Property on First Avenue North next to Interstate 65 was recently purchased by Planned Parenthood Southeast, Inc.

According to the Birmingham Business Journal, public records show the land located at 1019 First Avenue North was purchased by Planned Parenthood for $430,600.

The BBJ has confirmed the nonprofit organization will relocate its current health center located near Rhodes Park on Highland Avenue to this site.

Officials with Planned Parenthood Southeast told the BBJ that they have had a presence in Birmingham since 1930, and their current location needs updates. They decided to build a new clinic on First Avenue North to better serve their customers instead of renovating their current facility.

The project is in its early stages, but the group hopes to break ground later this year.

The site is on First Avenue North next to 11th Street North adjacent to I-65. It was previously Birmingham Skatepark.
