TRUSSVILLE, AL (WBRC) - Cakes, cookies and more are coming to Main Street in Trussville. Edgar's Bakery broke ground today on a new 5,000 square foot facility in the heart of downtown.
"When Trussville announced they were going to do the entertainment district, and all the explosion that's going on right now that's when we decided to come to Trussville. We are excited about it." Said Edgar's bakery owner Terry Smith. He grew up not far away in Huffman, and says the ever since he and his wife Dottie opened their first shop in the Colonnade 20 years ago, people have been asking for a store in Trussville.
"We're excited, we had a great turnout a lot of enthusiasm around the city." Said Trussville's Mayor Buddy Choat. He's says this project has been in the works for years.
"That was the first part of our overall downtown redevelopment. We have been talking to them for years, they decided Trussville was where they wanted to be a long time ago, and today was just the first step."
The new location will feature a bakery and storefront, as well as a café with gourmet breakfast and lunch. There will be a courtyard and retail space to be leased at a later date. This will be Edgar's 8th location. They hope to have it up and running by August of 2018.
