BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A lot of parts are moving in Five Points South right now.

Several new businesses and living spaces are coming to the area.

Steve Alexander with Five Points Alliance says as they anticipate a new boutique hotel and new apartment more business is popping up.

"And on the other side of this hotel, the biggest thing that is going to happen in this immediate one-block radius is the new student living apartments that will be going up where the break pool hall is located," Alexander explained.

Making a new home for 500 people in the heart of this area and businesses are jumping on the opportunity of an increased population.

Things to anticipate in the area:

  • A tech company
  • Men's salon
  • New sports bar
  • New Japanese restaurant
  • A men's clothing store
  • An Irish pub

"A new social club that they have just told me is going to be called the Woolworth Social club," Alexander explained.

It's a partnership with El Barrio and Paramount in Central City.

"To come up with this social club concept, there will be some bowling lanes in here and lots of games like you see at the Paramount but obviously a much bigger place a much bigger scale," Alexander stated.

Now, also in the last month or so, Five Points has lost two businesses.

"Well, the Starbucks and firehouse are national chains. It is my interest and Five Points alliances interests in finding replacements for those spaces that are a little more local in flavor."

He said two coffee shops are already interested in opening in Five Points.
