BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - RAIN CHANCES RETURN: We continue to deal with extremely dry conditions across our area, with a moderate drought now over West Alabama. The dry conditions have allowed temps to tumble into the 40s and 30s again this morning, although it's not quite as cold as it has been over the past few mornings. You can expect a nice warm-up for today, with highs nearing 70°. A southeast wind will return today and we will also an increase in cloud cover. We may have a few isolated showers or sprinkles overnight but I'm expecting a better chance for showers tomorrow and tomorrow night. It won't rain all day and the coverage will be very scattered; however, I would keep the umbrella nearby just in case you encounter some of this wet weather. This system will be slow to exit Friday morning so there may be some lingering showers through 7 a.m. Clouds will gradually thin out during the day on Friday, with highs in the 60s.
THE WEEKEND: I'm expecting clearing and dry weather for the weekend. This will be good news for all the Christmas Parades happening in the area. You can expect mostly sunny weather for Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. There could be a few isolated showers in the Atlanta area, so if you are headed over for the SEC Championship, plan on a small rain chance.
FIRST ALERT FOR RAIN/POSSIBLE STORMS NEXT WEEK: I'm seeing the possibility of bigger changes on the horizon as forecast data is suggesting a big change in the upper air pattern. Another front is expected to bring a chance of rain and storms on Tuesday, followed by a big d rop in temperatures by the end of next week. What kind of cold am I talking about? Some data suggests highs in the 30s and 40s! It is still a long ways off and a lot could change but stay tuned as we fine tune the forecast. We will have long range forecast updates on our WBRC First Alert Weather App. I will also have continuing updates on Good Day Alabama!
