Wes: Another cold start Wednesday morning; Rain possible Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

We will continue to enjoy a mostly sunny sky for the remainder of the day with clearing later Tuesday night. Temperatures will fall quickly after sunset and I’m expecting a very chilly night, with lows ranging from upper 30s north, to middle 40s south.

A light southeast breeze will return and this will make it feel even colder Wednesday morning, especially in the higher elevations. You may notice some frost on the mailbox in the morning, mainly in the sheltered outlying areas to the north. I’m expecting another good supply of sunshine early on Wednesday, but this will be filtering through higher level cloudiness later in the day.

A front will arrive Wednesday night and with a lack of moisture, only a few sprinkles are expected to the north. Most areas will remain dry through Wednesday night, with lots of clouds and lows in the 40s. We will have a southeast wind tomorrow and winds will become northwest after the front crosses the area early Thursday morning.

FIRST ALERT FOR RAIN SATURDAY: We will close out the work-week with more dry weather for Thursday and Friday. I’m expecting a colder start Friday morning, with lows near 40°. Clouds will be on the increase Friday night and right now I’m expecting nice weather for High School Football.

Forecast Model Guidance suggests the wet weather will arrive during the day on Saturday, which would impact the tailgates and college football. The rain could enter west Alabama as early as 6 a.m. Saturday morning and this system is expected to impact our area from west to east throughout the day and evening. The rain may begin a bit later in the morning over West Alabama, but I would be prepared just in case the system rolls in earlier. I’m not expecting much in the form of thunder as instability will be limited. This will mostly be a rainmaker and the wet weather should quickly taper off from west to east Saturday evening.

FIRST ALERT FOR FREEZING TEMPERATURES: Colder air will spill into the region on Sunday, with a chilly north wind. I’m forecasting an average low near 31 on Monday morning however some areas could tumble into the 20s. So get ready for the possibility of freezing temps for the start of next week!
