JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - Jefferson County commissioners are split over whether the controversy of sexual inappropriate behavior involving Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore could impact Amazon locating to Birmingham.
Jefferson County leaders made a pitch to lure Amazon to locate a second headquarters to the area. The project could bring in 50,000 jobs.
Today, we asked commissioners if they feared the project could be threatened by allegations surrounding Moore.
"There could be some concern nationally. I don't think Amazon is going to make their decision based on a particularly person in office at a particular time," Jefferson County Commissioner David Carrington said.
But, an African American female Democrat on the commission disagrees.
"If we don't do the right thing I think they may, but I hope they do the right thing. Like I said the allegations are stronger than the denial and we need to look at that," Jefferson County Commissioner Sandra Little Brown said.
Amazon is expected to make its decision next year.
