ADGER, AL (WBRC) -

A 15-year-old girl lost her life Monday evening after a gun discharged in a hunting accident.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies say the girl had been hunting with and adult family friend. When she climbed out of the tree stand, her friend passed the gun down but fired and struck her.

"We will take a thorough look at everything because that’s our responsibility. But sometimes, tragedy and heartbreak come unexpected, purely by accident, without blame or explanation. Now is the time to pray for and comfort a devastated family. Our hearts and prayers are with them,” Chief Deputy Randy Christian said.

The incident happened in the area of Valley Ford Road and Buford Road in Adger.
