Citizens for a Better Northport, a group concerned over plans for a new fifth and sixth grade school near Tuscaloosa County High School, will hold a public forum Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Northport City Hall.
Last week, members of the group asked the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education to delay its vote on plans for the new school. However, the board moved ahead and approved the proposal for the fifth and sixth grade school.
Citizens for a Better Northport wants the new school to be a middle school for grades six - eight. According to the group, Northport officials will be at the forum to listen to citizens' concerns.
Citizens advocating for a new middle school have said it would better accommodate current and future growth in the Tuscaloosa County High School zone.
Tuscaloosa County Schools' Superintendent said the plan for the school could change if more resources become available, but he said due to overcrowding, construction must begin on a new school.
