CALHOUN COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A deputy involved shooting in Calhoun County that occurred between 7:55 and 8:00 Friday night left one suspect dead.

According to Sheriff Matthew Wade, the deputy attempted to make a traffic stop for a switched tag on Boiling Springs Road near Ohatchee. The suspect refused to stop so a short pursuit took place.  During the chase, the deputy was able to get in front of the suspect's vehicle, put it in reverse and hit another vehicle. The officer stepped out of his vehicle and the suspect attempted to run him over, swerved and pulled a gun. The deputy shot the suspect and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Guns and drugs were later found in the suspect's car.

Oxford police and the JSU Center for Applied Forensics are investigating.
