BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - It took the Blazers until the final game of the 2014 season to clinch bowl eligibility.
This year, they did it with three games to spare. UAB blew out Rice 52-21 at Legion Field on Saturday.
The bowls opted not to take the Blazers in 2014. But with three games left to build on its already impressive resume, UAB could be playing in a bowl game for the first time since playing Hawaii in 2004.
Freshmen sensation Spencer Brown paved the way with 140 yards and three touchdowns. He scored on gains of one, nine and one.
Quarterback A.J. Erdely accounted for three scores of his own. He found Donnie Lee for a 43-yard score and Andre Wilson for scores from 16 and five yards out.
Erdely passed for 197 yards on 20-of-21 passing.
Even the Blazers defense couldn't be kept out of the end zone. Brontae Harris intercepted Miklo Smalls and returned it for a 64-yard score.
