AUBURN, AL (WBRC) - Jay Jacobs announced Friday he will be stepping down as Director of Athletics at Auburn University effective June 1, 2018, or sooner if a new director is found.
Jacobs, a former Auburn football player, has been Director of Athletics at Auburn since 2004. Including all sports, the school has won 12 national championships during his tenure.
The athletics department has seen its share of issues recently including a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by former baseball coach Sunny Golloway, a discrimination lawsuit filed by a former softball player, and an FBI investigation into college basketball around the nation that implicated assistant coach Chuck Person.
His contract was originally set to expire on June 30, 2020.
