Human remains found in Shelby County identified, man arrested for abuse of a corpse

SHELBY COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

UPDATE: Authorities arrested 42-year-old Anthony Germany on Dec. 1. in connection to the homicide investigation.

Germany is charged with abuse of a corpse.


Officials with the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences have identified the remains found in Shelby County on Thursday, November 2.

According to authorities, the remains are those of 27-year-old Melissa Ann Cleckler of Clanton.

The Shelby County coroner ruled Cleckler's death a homicide. A cause of death has not been released.

Cleckler's remains were found in a wooded area Thursday near Oak Drive and Egg and Butter Road just outside Columbiana.

Now, they are asking the public for help in solving this homicide case.

“Hopefully someone is missing a loved one and they can reach out to us and let us know and at least we can rule out some people,” Samaniego says. “We have looked at our records and ruled out every person at this time, so we really need the public's help.”:

Sheriff Samaniego is offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible in Clecker's death. 

CrimeStoppers is offering an additional reward up to $5,000 also. 

This makes the total possible reward up to $10,000.  Your information will be kept anonymous if you come forward.
