Remains found in Shelby County identified, homicide investigation continues

SHELBY COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Officials with the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences have identified the remains found in Shelby County on Thursday, November 2.

According to authorities, the remains are those of 27-year-old Melissa Ann Cleckler of Clanton.

The Shelby County coroner ruled Cleckler's death a homicide. A cause of death has not been released.

Cleckler's remains were found in a wooded area Thursday near Oak Drive and Egg and Butter Road just outside Columbiana.

Now, they are asking the public for help in solving this homicide case.

“Hopefully someone is missing a loved one and they can reach out to us and let us know and at least we can rule out some people,” Samaniego says. “We have looked at our records and ruled out every person at this time, so we really need the public's help.”:
