BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Two people are in custody after a police chase in Jefferson County on Oct. 31.
Deputies say the car involved in the chase had been stolen in Florida and the passenger had an outstanding warrant from Florida for stealing it.
Investigators identified her as 47-year-old Katrina Lynn Loperena, of Brookwood, AL. She faces a charge of first-degree being a fugitive from justice and receiving stolen property.
Deputies arrested her boyfriend, 42-year-old Jason Thomas Green, of Duncanville, AL, and identified him as the driver. He faces charges of first-degree receiving stolen property and attempting to elude.
Authorities tried to make a traffic stop at 10:30 Tuesday morning on Old Tuscaloosa Highway and Kimbrell-Cutoff Road. They say the driver refused to stop and continued to Eastern Valley Road where he stopped.
Deputies say the driver sped off when a deputy got out his patrol car. The deputy gave chase and followed the suspects to Coleman Lake aRoad and Ashton Way.
Investigators say the driver ran away on foot and left two passengers in the car. Other deputies detained the two passengers.
A K-9 unit responded to the scene and tracked to driver into the woods where he was found hiding in a pile of brush.
The unnamed passenger was not charged and has been released.
