SHOWERS RETURN: Clouds are back on the increase across our area as a warmer/moist air mass returns to the region. We are tracking a large area of showers over Mississippi and this wet weather will enter the western part of our state by lunchtime. I’m expecting some of this light shower activity to reach areas further east Wednesday afternoon and evening, so keep the umbrella nearby. I’m not expecting any storm activity, and the rain amounts should be less than a tenth of an inch on average. Even with more clouds today, temperatures will surge into the upper 60s and low 70s.
REST OF THE WEEK AND WEEKEND: Get ready to crank up the AC again! Temperatures will continue to rise tomorrow and on Friday, with highs back in the mid to upper 70s. The sky will be partly to mostly cloudy at times, with a chance for scattered showers and possibly a storm, as a moist west-southwest flow pattern continues. As far as timing, this wet weather may develop during the morning hours, with development also possible in the afternoon. The greatest chance for a passing shower or storm will be over West Alabama on Thursday, but the threat of wet weather will increase for areas further east on Friday. This chance of scattered storms and showers will continue into the day on Saturday. If you have a tailgate planned, keep an eye to the sky and the First Alert Weather app for lightning alerts. I do expect drier conditions for Saturday night. High pressure to our southwest will keep most of our area dry on Sunday, with only a stray shower north. I’m expecting some unseasonably warm weather, with highs nearing 80 percent in many areas.
LONG RANGE OUTLOOK: Another cold front will move our way early next week but I’m still uncertain if there will be enough upper air support to force this front through our area. I am going to mention the chance for showers and storms next Tuesday night. However, we will need to see some more data before determining the magnitude of colder air to follow this system. Stay tuned!
