You can't smell it, but students like Harlyn Cowart feel and see the atmosphere surrounding homecoming on the University of Alabama campus this week.
"It's really great to see everyone get excited about all the creative stuff on campus like the bonfire," Cowart said on Thursday.
The bonfire sits on the east of the Quad.
Robert Sarafin, a 21 student from Augusta, Georgia, was one of 20 to 30 ROTC cadets who stacked pallets for hours this week building up the bonfire.
"We really enjoy. It's something we take a lot of pride in and being an active member of the University," Cadet Sarafin explained.
The stand for the 2017 Homecoming Court is a short walk away in front of Gorgas Library.
The Homecoming Queen will be crowned from a group of five women during Friday's 7 p.m. pep rally and bonfire on the quad.
"Yes sir, it's a lot of fun. It's going to be my fourth one and I'm looking forward to it as always," Sarafin added.
