LAS VEGAS, NV (RNN) - A GoFundMe account to help victims and families of the Las Vegas shootings has topped $2 million and increased its goal to $3.5 million.

The Clark County Commission chair from Las Vegas started the account Monday morning, and it exceeded its $500,000 goal in under three hours. The fund toppled $1 million by mid-afternoon, and $2 million by night.

Funds will be used to help provide “relief and financial support to victims and families of the shooting," wrote Steve Sisolak, who is also a candidate for governor of Nevada.

He said he spent the night with the Clark County Sheriff at county's level-one trauma center.

The death toll has risen to more than 58 and more than 500 injured concertgoers who were among 22,000 attending  the Route 91 Harvest Festival when the gunman opened fire with a military-style rifle.

The FBI has said that the shooter, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, took his own life as police stormed his hotel room and had no ties to terrorist groups. The motive remains a mystery.

The Red Cross is calling for blood donations in the Las Vegas area and elsewhere.
