Selma city school district gets new superintendent

SELMA, Ala. (AP) - The Selma City School Board has named Dr. Avis Williams as its new superintendent.

WSFA-TV reports the board chose Williams, one of the five candidates interviewed, Thursday.

The board says it liked Williams because she is innovative and has a clear set of expectations with measures to keep the system accountable. The board members said they also liked the points she made about a strategic plan and budget for the system.

School Board President Johnny Moss confirmed Williams accepted the position and they need to just iron out details of the contract.

Williams replaces Dr. Angela Mangum, who resigned in May.
