The annual Heart & Sole 5K is this Saturday, August 26th at Crestline Elementary. The 5K begins at 8 a.m. and the Kids Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m.! All proceeds benefit EAB, a student-run free clinic through UAB School of Medicine that provides healthcare and education to the uninsured in Birmingham. Equal Access Birmingham is a medical-student run free clinic, run by the UAB School of Medicine. It provides health care and medications to the homeless and underserved population of Birmingham, free of charge

. It is completely student run by a team of about 25 officers, all of whom are now second-year medical students. Every Sunday from 1pm-5pm and Wednesday from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., it offers an open clinic which is located downtown within the Church of the Reconciler on 2nd Avenue North and 14th Street. There is a volunteer physician at every clinic, but all other functions of the clinic - patient history and physicals, check-in/check-out, records, and dispensary - are all manned by the officers, other volunteer medical students, and a few undergraduate students from UAB. To register for the race, visit active.com and search "EAB" or visit https://endurancecui.active.com/new/events/45506552/select_race?_p=814293156777353.
