Arise Alabama holds healthcare forum

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

While Washington politicians continue to work on a healthcare bill activists groups want more Birmingham citizen involvement.

Arise Alabama held a public forum Saturday to answer questions and encourage people to call their senators. Speakers included private doctors, policy directors and advocates for health care.

"We all acknowledge that the Affordable Care Acts needs some improvements, but you don't improve something by throwing it out the window. We are calling on Congress to listen to the people," Jim Carnes with Alabama Arise said.

Arise speakers emphasized that laws need to promote health and organizers say that current proposals to repeal and replace the ACA do not do that.
