The American Red Cross is hosting blood drives across Central Alabama in the midst of a critical blood shortage. On July 21, people in the Tuscaloosa area have the opportunity to donate blood in honor of young cancer survivor Nate Stevens.

The blood drive in honor of Stevens will be Friday, July 21, from 2-7 p.m. at University Mall in Tuscaloosa.

To schedule an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org and enter “natestevens” as the sponsor code in the "Find a Blood Drive" search window.

For more information, contact 1-800-REDCROSS OR 1-800-733-2767. Other donation opportunities are available by calling the number or visiting the website.

According to the Red Cross, blood donations have fallen short of expectations for the past two months, resulting in about 61,000 fewer donations than needed. The shortfall is the equivalent of the Red Cross not collecting any blood donations for more than four days.
