Gardendale murder victim's family & neighbor speak

GARDENDALE, AL (WBRC) -

The family and neighbors of the three Gardendale murder victims are still coping with their loss.

Dana Lever, her brother-in-law Don Foshee, and her sister Bonnie Foshee were shot and killed by Lever's ex-husband Kenneth Lever.

"He was more than a brother. He was my best friend. We hunted, fished. Went places together. I couldn't ask for a better brother," Foshee's brother Gerald said.

Don Foshee was a veteran of the Vietnam War. His brother said Foshee loved his family and spending time with them at Smith Lake.

The murders shocked Foshee’s neighbors. "I didn't know. I saw it on TV yesterday morning earlier on, but it didn't have names at the time. Then late yesterday afternoon they showed the picture and I said my lord that's my neighbor," Darrell Bates said.

Fultondale City Councilman Darrell Bates was a neighbor of the Foshees for about ten years. Bates said Foshee took pride his the appearance of his home. "Don and I talked many, many times. Kept his lawn well-groomed all the time. His hedges always trimmed neat." Bates said.

The Foshee family and friends don't understand this tragedy and why it had to happen. But, they are turning to their faith to help them get through it. "God is an anchor. I mean, I will be honest. If you don't have God in your life as an anchor, you don't have nothing," Gerald Foshee said.
