The Auburn Tigers closed things out on day four of SEC Media Days at the Wynfrey Hotel. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn along with defensive back Tray Matthews, kicker Daniel Carlson, and offensive lineman Braden Smith took the stage on Thursday to address the media.
Auburn, who finished 8-5 last year, returns eight starters on offense and seven on defense. The Tigers will enter this season with another quarterback battle between Sean White and transfer quarterback Jarrett Stidham.
"He (Stidham) came in pretty early and since Sean White wasn't available because of his arm injury, he stepped in and demanded a lot of our team. He is a vocal leader and that's nice to have," said offensive lineman Braden Smith
This is Malzahn's fifth year with the Tigers and although most coaches don't like expectations, he loves them.
"That's the kind of job you want. Auburn is a place that wants to win championships and I agree. This year we have a chance and we have to seize the moment," Malzahn said.
"We aren't buying into the hype. We aren't thinking about the other stuff, we have a chip on our shoulder because we haven't finished the way we have wanted to and we want to change that this year," said defensive back Tray Matthews.
Auburn will open the season on September 2nd against Georgia Southern.
