The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected former Alabama and Autauga Academy tight end O.J. Howard with the 19th pick of the NFL Draft Thursday night.
Howard rounded out his Crimson Tide career with 114 receptions for 1,726 yards and seven touchdowns.
Howard blew up in the 2016 National Championship game with 208 yards and two touchdowns in Bama’s win over Clemson. He earned Offensive MVP honors that game.
He followed that performance in the 2017 National Championship game with 106 yards and a touchdown in Bama’s 35-31 loss to Clemson.
Howard was invited to the Senior Bowl in Mobile in January.
He turned heads at the NFL Combine in March with a 40-yard dash of 4.51 seconds. He added 22 reps on the bench press and a 30 inch vertical jump.
Coming out of Autauga Academy, Howard was named the AISA 2012 Lineman of the Year.
