CALHOUN COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says three people have been arrested in connection with an attempted murder in Oxford.

Motorists found a beaten woman with an electrical cord around her neck in hangman's noose style. She was found in a creek at Mellon Bridge Road.

Police say the victim is a 44-year-old woman from Oxford.

Anthony Scott Coffee, Matt Aaron Hammonds and David Brian Pearman have all been charged with attempted murder and kidnapping.

It appears woman was suspected of stealing drugs in Golden Springs, according to police.

"It's a miracle she's still alive. [This is a] heinous, disturbing act. The victim knew her attackers. The violence they did is somebody with a lot of rage in them," said Sheriff Matthew Wade.

Wade says police are unsure whether the noose was tied to the bridge or pulled by hand.

Police say the victim left her home on Wednesday around 11 a.m. and was not seen since. She was found around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday when the motorists heard cries for help under the bridge.

All three men are each being held on $300,000 bond.
