Sexual assault victims are being reminded there is help in Jefferson County.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Jefferson County Commission recognized the month this week.
The head of the Jefferson County Rape Crisis Center says sexual assaults remains a major problem for the county and it recognizes no age.
"We have seen people in Jefferson County under one year old to over 96 years old. It's not about age. It can happen to anybody. Any life circumstance. No one is immune. Unfortunately, perpetrators perpetrate against people," said Meg McClanery, Executive Director of the Crisis Center.
McClanery says while more people are aware of the Crisis Center and Rape Response to offer help she still believes many victims do no turn for help and counseling that is available.
The Crisis Center number for help and counseling is 205-323-7273.
