BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Young people committing crimes with guns is a problem in Jefferson County.

The county’s interim district attorney said its law enforcement and courts can’t deal with the problem alone. Danny Carr said they will need help from parents and people in the community.

This week, Carr spoke with the Jefferson County Commission. He talked about a new anti-crime initiative started by the city of Birmingham,
the call-in program.

This brings in victims, witness and even people involved in crimes to address their problems and to try to steer them from crime.

Last weekend teens were involved in a shooting that left people wounded including a young child at the carnival in Center Point. Carr remains confident the guilty will be found.  “It was senseless. I'm sure the Birmingham Police department are looking for the perpetrator.

When they are found we will bring them to justice." Carr said.

The DA said too many teenagers have access to guns and that is another area they need to stop and address.
