Hodges' 5 touchdowns lift Samford over VMI

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Virginia Military Institute scored three touchdowns against Samford on Saturday.

Samford quarterback Delvin Hodges topped that with five. The Bulldogs scored seven in all on the way to a 55-21 win over the Keydets.

The Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1 Southern Conference) outgained VMI 557-331. Hodges was responsible for 436 of those.

He completed 35-of-50 passes for 435 yards and five scores. His touchdown passes went to Kelvin McKnight for gains of nine and three, Emmanuel Obajimi on a gain of seven, Karel Hamilton on a gain of 16 and Devon Schmitt on a gain of five.

Hodges also ran for a yard. He was one of seven ball carriers for the Bulldogs. They totaled 95 rushing yards.

Denzel Williams led with 33 yards on eight carries.

Samford will take on Western Carolina at home on Saturday.
