Birmingham police ID man fatally shot in Collegeville area

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police have identified a man who was shot in the Collegeville area on Thursday night and died at the hospital.

Police responded to a report of a man shot in the 3000 block of 29th Court North around 6:15 p.m. They found one man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Lt. Sean Edwards.

Police identified the victim as Byron Pritchett, 22, of Birmingham. He was transported to UAB Hospital where he later died.

The preliminary investigation indicates Pritchett was walking home when a man approached him.

"It is unclear at this point why the suspect approached him but during the verbal exchange the suspect shot the victim,” Edward said.

Detectives are working possible leads to learn the suspect’s identity.
