Good evening from the FOX6 WBRC Newsroom. This is Jonathan Hardison with a look at the stories we're following for you tonight:

Tonight we’re hearing for the first time from a Vestavia Hills police officer who’s out on medical leave. A distracted driver rear-ended his police cruiser while he was stopped on the side of the road helping another motorist. Our Jamiese Price is hearing firsthand how he survived and how he hopes this case will stop other officers from being hurt.

New on WBRC FOX6 News at 10, our Reshad Hudson is live from Jacksonville State University where fellow Marching Southerners are mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Katie Beth Carter in a car accident as she was heading back to school.
