An officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Lincoln, according to ALEA State Trooper Gary Daniel.
The Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy confirmed a person died in the shooting outside the Discount Food Mart on Highway 79 in Eastaboga. It happened around 10:15 a.m. Saturday, May 28.
Troopers said a person, who was reportedly armed, was hurt by gunfire and died from his injuries. The officer was not injured in the shooting.
Authorities have not released the name of the person who died.
Sherry Robinson said she witnessed the shooting.
"Yes, they said 'Put down your gun! Put down your gun!' And that's when he pointed and the officer took a shot," Robinson explained. "It was very lucky that no one else got hurt, you know? He could have killed several people in the police chase."
Gail Harbin has lived in the area for 33 years. She said she has never seen violence like this.
"Things don't happen like that around here. I'm from Chicago and I've seen a lot of ugly going on up there. You just don't see it down here," Harbin said.
Lincoln police requested the State Bureau of Investigation’s assistance with the case.
State troopers said once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Talladega County District Attorney.
