MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL (WBRC) - More people are out exercising with warmer weather. If you are working out in Mountain Brook beware of some restrictions. Danny Smith has been running for about 45 years and he knows part of Mountain Brook can be dangerous.
"It is very difficult to get across the road there at the intersection of Mountain Brook Village, especially dealing with lunch time traffic," Smith said.
Section 467 of Mountain Brook city code requires that anyone walking, jogging or running within six feet of a city street between 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. must have on reflective clothing or strobe lighting that is visible from the front and back.
"Mainly it's safety. Be safe. Be conscious of our safety. Do everything in your power if you are running, walking exercising in low or no lighted conditions," Mountain Brook Police Chief Ted Cook said.
The department purchased recently 200 arm bands with strobe lights for officers to give out to runners and quickly gave all of them away.
"That is they encounter some one that doesn't have reflective clothing or lights of some sort or some sort of illumination they can provide it to them," Cook said.
Later this week the department is expected to get another shipment.
