Members of the Birmingham City Council are “scrambling” ahead of elections in light of changes to the city’s Mayor-Council Act. The changes give the mayor the ability to appoint people to commissions and boards and changes the election cycles. Clare Huddleston has more at 7 a.m.

Apple Valley residents are raising concerns about an apartment building in the area following a deadly shooting Thursday afternoon. Neighbors say crime at the Valley Brook apartments is brought in by people visiting.

The Coyote Drive-In theater held its grand opening in Leeds. The fire featured film will be “Captain America: Civil War.”

Birmingham police are investigating a homicide that left a man dead in Ensley. The shooting happened in the 1500 block of 34th Street.
