BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) - Bessemer police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and two more people injured.

It happened around 9 p.m. Saturday on 18th Ave and 15th Street in Bessemer, where police said there was a barbeque cookout taking place.

When police arrived they found a male lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds in the upper torso.

Sgt. Cortice Miles said the other two  victims, a male and female  were transported to UAB in Birmingham  with non-life-threatening injuries.

"It definitely could have been a lot worse. It's a little bit warmer. People are coming out. Fortunately, no one else was injured besides the people we are aware of. We are thankful for that," Miles said.

Miles said there's no clear motive at this time but, some witnesses are cooperating with police.

"Our main goal is to continue to investigate this case, collect this evidence, and see if we can locate a suspect."
