Suspected shooter in NFL's Will Smith death held on $1 million bond; Details at 7 a.m.

The man accused of shooting and killing former New Orleans Saints player Will Smith is being held on a $1 million bond. Cardell Hayes is charged with second-degree murder after police say he shot Smith in a road rage incident Saturday night. Smith’s wife was also injured. We’ll have more on this developing case at 7:10 a.m.

Jury selection is set to begin in the case of Justin Ross Harris, the former Tuscaloosa resident accused of killing his toddler son by leaving him in a hot car. The child died in 2014 after Harris said he forgot to drop him off at day care. Prosecutors say he had searched hot car death information before the incident. Terri Brewer will be live with more at 7 a.m.

A new Alabama Senate bill is hoping to make it easier for convicted felons to find a job once they get out of prison. The “Ban the Box” bill would remove the box that asks if applicants have been convicted of a crime from some state job applications.

Governor Bentley had a heated exchange with a reporter who asked about his affair scandal at a stop in Mobile last week.  He will be in Limestone County today for a ribbon cutting.
