GOD'S NEXT DEAD 2 - Janice talked with Melissa Joan Hart and Robin Givens about their new film - "God's Not Dead 2." It focuses on a Christian teacher Grace Wesley played by Melissa Joan Hart who must fight for her job and her reputation when she mentions Jesus when answering a student's question in her public-school classroom. Her refusal to apologize leads school district officials to enlist a zealous civil liberties group to find her guilty of violating the "separation of church and state." Grace becomes embroiled in a landmark courtroom battle to save her career and defend the right for her religious freedom as prosecutors try to prove, once and for all, not only that God is dead, but that Jesus never lived. While the ACLU consistently talks about the "alleged" words of Jesus, challenging his status as a historical figure, the defense musters a mountain of evidence to counter that claim. The film reflects elements of other true stories of people persecuted for their faith as seen in the news story from last fall in Katy, Texas when a 7th grader spoke to her school board after her teacher said God was a myth. GOD'S NOT DEAD 2 stars Melissa Joan Hart, Jesse Metcalfe, Hayley Orrantia, David A.R. White, Sadie Robertson, Robin Givens, the late Senator Fred Dalton Thompson, and Pat Boone. Featured appearances include The Newsboys and Mike Huckabee. The film, rated PG for thematic elements, hits theaters today. For more information, visit www.Godsnotdead.com.
ZOO CREW - Rebekah Daniels joined us from the Birmingham Zoo to introduce Jill to an Eastern Screech Owl. Their hunting strategy is to survey prey from a perched position then swoop down to catch the prey. She also reminded us about the Birmingham Zoo's Spring Membership Drive which runs until June 1. During the Membership Drive only, you can receive a Fun Adventures coupon book with more than $200 of Zoo Savings - for Family Memberships and above. Birmingham Zoo Members also receive a special discount on Dino Discovery- They're Back! To learn more information about the animal or visit the zoo, go to www.birminghamzoo.com.
BO BIKES BAMA - Five hundred miles away from his home state, Bo Jackson watched in shock as a series of devastating tornadoes ripped through Alabama on April 27, 2011, claiming hundreds of lives and destroying countless homes. While many sat powerless to help, Bo knew he wanted to do something special for the people back home—and that's where the Bo Bikes Bama story began. He joined us this morning with details on this year's ride - April 30th. Participating riders can choose either a 60-mile or 20-mile route. Both routes will take riders through the campus of Auburn University, while the 60-mile route will pass through Tuskegee and neighboring Macon County. Every year, Bo Bikes Bama raises money for the Governor's Emergency Relief Fund, which provides crucial disaster preparedness and emergency management resources for the state of Alabama.
