Lockdown lifted at Miles College; 1 dead after shooting near campus

FAIRFIELD, AL (WBRC) - Miles College was on lockdown after a shooting took place near the rear of the campus Sunday night, according to a spokesperson for the college.
The shooting did not occur on campus but a lockdown was put in place as a safety precaution. The lockdown was lifted late Sunday night.
Fairfield Police Chief Leon Davis confirms the victim died. The shooting is now being investigated as a homicide.
Davis didn't release the victim's identity but he described him as a 23-year-old black male. Police found him suffering from life-threatening wounds and he was transported to an area hospital.
The school's spokesman says the victim was not a Miles student.
Investigators say the victim was using an app to track his cell phone that had been stolen from his person vehicle. An altercation ensued and led to the shooting.
Police say the suspect may answer to the nicknames "G-Boy" or "G-Bone." He is believed to be traveling in a 2015 Nissan Maxima that is either brown or gold and it may have chrome around the sun roof.
