RETIREMENT - Janice talked with Chris Hogan, Financial Expert and #1 Best-Selling Author with Ramsey Solution, about reasons people retire broke & tips for changing this trend. He says the four main obstacles stand between you and retirement are misunderstanding retirement, depending on social security, acting like sheep, and not having a plan. To overcome these obstacles he says you should know your income.   This is your #1 wealth-building tool. Make a plan for your money. And budget every dollar. Chris says debt = deferred dreams. The average consumer sends 24 percent of their take-home pay to non-mortgage debt.  Every dollar you send to debt, you're robbing from your retirement. Make a plan to eliminate and avoid future debt. Find ways to generate extra income by selling some stuff, getting an extra job, or considering downsizing your home or car.

OUR HOUSE - Cathy Borden from Home Depot showed us how we can save water in the bathroom by installing new faucets. Homeowners who invest in smart bathroom upgrades see a 73 percent return on average, according to Remodeling Magazine. This is a great opportunity to give one of the most used rooms in the house a new look. One of the most common types of bath faucets is the center-set faucet. These are available in a wide selection of styles and prices and are generally easy to install. Measure the distance between the tailpieces of the faucet that you are replacing. Faucets are 4 inches on center up to 12 inches on center, so be sure to purchase the faucet that will fit your opening. A WaterSense-certified faucet will help reduce water use. Faucets come in a variety of finishes like chrome, bronze and stainless steel. Choose one that matches pre-existing fixtures or select a contrasting tone for a bolder statement. A center-set faucet combines the spout and handles on a single base unit. Cathy also showed us how simple it easy to install a new faucet if you get one that fits your pre-existing spot. Simply follow the instructions that come with your new faucet.

PET OF THE WEEK - Kathy Wolf with the Greater Birmingham Humane Society introduced us to a pet today looking for a forever home! Her name is Taffy. Those who wish to enter also get more entries with additional donations: $25 earns 4 entries, $50 earns 10 entries and $100 earns 25 chances to win. In addition to the free tickets, the lucky winner will also get the option to either: 1-travel to Nashville by private jet with limo service to whisk them to and from the concert OR 2-If they wish to drive, they will receive a gas card provided by McPherson Oil and an overnight stay at the Downtown Nashville Homewood Suites along with a fantastic dinner. And the best part? Entries go directly toward caring for one of the thousands of neglected, abused and homeless animals who find hope and help through the GBHS every year. The average cost to care for a homeless pet each day is $10 and with more than 18,000 animals taken in and cared for in 2015, the GBHS needs help now more than ever.  To enter the contest, visit rallyup.com/gbhs-adele. To be eligible, donations must be made by March 1 at 5 p.m. The winner will be announced at 5:30 p.m. on the GBHS' social media pages!
