JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - A number of people in Jefferson County took aim Saturday morning, sharpening their skills in class.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's office held free firearm training courses. The courses covered everything from what kind of gun is best for an individual to the fundamentals of carrying and shooting a firearm.
Deputy Chief Hallmark says that he has seen a tremendous outpouring of response from women who are interested in learning how to safely operate a handgun and protect themselves.
"What we like to do is let them be comfortable with that handgun and leave here, the academy, with a feeling of empowerment that they do have that knowledge to safely and responsibly use that firearm," Hallmark said.
Organizers say the classes are booked through November.
