MOODY, AL (WBRC) - Firefighters responded to a fire at a Moody restaurant on Sunday night.
Moody fire confirms they received a call around 9:45 p.m. that Vinny Vito's on Moody Parkway was on fire.
According to firefighters, the fire has been contained but they will remain on scene to make sure the fire is out. They say the building is a total loss. Leeds fire assisted Moody in battling the blaze.
Vinny Vito's owner told us Monday that he and his employees were leaving the restaurant Sunday night when they noticed smoke coming out of the dormer. He said it took only about 15 minutes and the building was basically gone.
Monday, Moody firefighters were at the scene, monitoring hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk says it's too early to comment.
The roof of the building fell in during the fire and will have to be moved to continue the investigation.
Vinny Vito's had only been in this spot since March 2015. Before that, it was Carlisle's Barbecue and then Pancho's Mexican Restaurant. We spoke to Pete Carlisle, who originally built the building 25 years ago.
"I worked down here 12-18 hours a day for 24 years and we sold it. But still, even though it ain't mine, it still breaks my heart to see it burned down because it was home. You know, you stay somewhere 24 years, you hate to see something happen to it," Carlisle said.
Vinny Vito's owner said he had insurance but it won't be enough to cover this loss.
