Need a ride? Uber is now up

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Good evening from the WBRC FOX6 Newsroom. This is Jonathan Hardison with a look at the stories we're following for you tonight.

Uber is up

It's here, so what? Uber is up and running in Birmingham as of late this afternoon and for now, 31 drivers (with hundreds more pending) are licensed to pick you up and take you wherever you wanna go. So what's the difference between these ride-hailing services and a traditional taxi service? New tonight on WBRC FOX6 News at 9, our Vanessa Araiza is digging into this so you'll know what's best for you on New Year's Eve and beyond.

Preparing for an execution

And we're just a few weeks away from the scheduled execution of the man convicted of raping and killing JoDeann Campbell on New Year's Eve 1992. New tonight on WBRC FOX6 News at 10, our Lydia Hu is sitting down for an exclusive interview with Campbell's sister to talk about how her family is preparing for this day and how she's planning to be there when he dies.
