BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Santa and Mrs. Claus visited with kids, adults and dogs in Crestwood on Sunday.
The famous couple will appear in countless family holiday photos. But who exactly is that wearing those red holiday suits?
Bill Kinnebrew did not decide to become the beloved holiday figure. Some might say that Santa decided to live through him.
"Kids at Christmas time would point him at him across the room and say 'Look! There's Santa,'" explained Bill's wife, Laurie.
Laurie also dresses as Mrs. Claus. She made their fur trimmed red garments herself.
"Literally I asked him five years ago, 'If I made you a suit, would you try to be Santa Claus,'" Laurie said.
You could say that was the moment this Santa Claus was born, but that's only half of the story.
Bill was born on Christmas Day. And so was his brother a year later. And his mother, too, decades before.
"Christmas had always been gigantic in our house," Bill said.
Now that Bill wears the red coat and hat, he cannot imagine his holiday tradition any other way.
"It's just one of those things that's grown. We've grown into it or it's grown into us, I'm not sure which, but it wouldn't be Christmas without doing it now," Bill said.
