Smokestack comes down, council doesn't show up, and is Black Fri - WBRC FOX6 News - Birmingham, AL

Smokestack comes down, council doesn't show up, and is Black Friday worth it?

Good afternoon from the desk of Janet Hall. Here are the stories we’re working on for WBRC FOX6 News this evening.

Did you see it?
Incredible video shows a Pell City smokestack falling on a worker in a track hoe this morning. There were some very scary moments until the guy stepped out of the rubble OK. Hear how he describes the experience on WBRC FOX6 News at 5.  We’ll also be looking into what went wrong and why.

Where is everybody?
The Birmingham City Council meeting was cancelled this morning because not enough members showed up for a quorum. They couldn’t vote on anything so those who did show up had to give up on the day’s business. On the agenda was the issue of whether or not the ride-sharing service Uber will be allowed to operate in Birmingham. We’ll have reaction from a rather angry council leader at 6 p.m.

Is it worth it?
The ads are everywhere for huge Black Friday bargains. But are they really better than the bargains you’ll find throughout the holiday shopping season? We’re working now to answer the question: “Is Black Friday shopping worth the effort?”

Those stories and more beginning at 5 p.m. on WBRC FOX6 News.
