HOMEWOOD, AL (WBRC) - Like the mighty Thor, Toby Taylor dropped the Patriots' hammer, figuratively and literally, on the field Friday night.
It was a team effort in Homewood's 45-16 win over Hueytown.
In the first quarter, Gopher quarterback Bradley Harris threw an interception to Jacob Biles. Biles then took the interception down the field 50 yards for the first score of the game.
The offense began to click when quarterback Carson Griffis threw a screen to Alec Marsh and he ran the ball 60 yards all the way to the four-yard line. That's when Kristopher Wilkins scored one of two short touchdowns in the first quarter to make it 21-0 Patriots.
Hueytown did get on the scoreboard in the second quarter after Homewood fumbled a catch on the kickoff. The Gophers marched in the end zone 35 yards and Roderick Madden scored from two yards out to make it 21-9.
The defense continued its dominance when Bradley Harris us picked off again by Tobbie Taylor Jr. Taylor ran it back 65 yards for the touchdown.
The Gophers scored three more times, but it wasn't enough to beat the Patriots.
The Patriots are now 6-2 while the Gophers fall to 4-5 on the year.
