Weekend crash kills motorcyclist in west Birmingham

Good morning everyone.  Thanks for allowing us to help you start your Monday morning.

There is a lot of news to pass along to you this morning.

There was a terrible motorcycle crash with a car in the west side of Birmingham. One person was killed Sunday afternoon when police say the bike they were riding was hit by a red sedan, and as a result collided with a power line pole around 2:30 p.m. on Jefferson Avenue, right in front of A1 Food Mart. Police say there is a strong indication that the two vehicles were racing and that it is possible there was an ongoing feud between the two drivers, but investigators can't say that with absolute certainty right now. One person who lives nearby told us she's not surprised something like this would happen on this stretch of road.

There is amazing flooding video and rescues to show you from South Carolina. The east coast experienced historic flooding. Seven people died as a result of the brutal weather conditions.

Alabama Congresswoman Terri Sewell says she plans to ask the Department of Justice to look into the closure of 31 rural DMV offices in Alabama. Sewell says these closures will hurt poor, rural and African American residents. She's particularly concerned because Alabama requires a photo ID to vote.
The closures are due to big budget cuts across the state.

Congresswoman Sewell joins us in the 7 a.m. hour of Good Day Alabama.

Terri Brewer is in Capstone talking about the big win for the Crimson Tide.  We'll also have Auburn's big win as well.

The weather has been a little unpredictable. Mickey Ferguson will give us the forecast this morning to tell us how long the cooler temperatures will last.
