GULF SHORES CVB - Herb Malone with Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism joined us with the scoop on what's coming up this fall! Fall is a great time for a trip to Alabama's beaches. The weather is cooler but still warm enough for splashing in the waves, and it's the time of year for many of our area's great festivals and events. The National Shrimp Festival is in its 44th year and takes place Oct. 8 through 11 on the public beach in Gulf Shores. This event brings more than 250,000 visitors out to enjoy music, arts, crafts, and, of course, lots, and lots of shrimp. In November, The 31st annual Frank Brown International Songwriters' Festival begins on the 5th and runs through the 15th. It takes place at multiple locations across the island and features the writers of the songs we all know and love. It's a great chance to hear the stories behind the songs and hear them sung as they were originally written. The Hangout's Oyster Cook-off and Craft Beer Weekend is set for Nov. 6-7 and in Gulf Shores. This event is much more than a competition between local restaurants serving their best oyster recipes. Visitors can take part in cooking demos by celebrity chefs including Anne Burrell and Marc Murphy, and enjoy more than 60 craft beers. Plus, there's a full music lineup including Lennon and Maisy of ABC's "Nashville." Right after Thanksgiving, on Nov. 28, the Coastal Half Marathon is a fun family event that takes place in Orange Beach. Runners can participate in the half marathon, a 5K run or a one mile Fun Run. What better way to burn off a few of those Thanksgiving calories? You can find a full list of all the fun events and activities on our website's Calendar of Events at GulfShores.com. We hope to see you at the beach! Fall is a great time for a trip to Alabama's beaches and it's the time of year for many of our area's great events.
BBJ - Janice talked with Cindy Fisher Crawford from the Birmingham Business Journal. They discussed women in business and Cindy's theory that CEOs with daughters often have more females in their inner/management circle in the office. They also discussed the opening of the new Grandview Medical Center and what it could mean for new jobs. For more on these and other business stories, visit birminghambusinessjournal.com.
