BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Fairfield Tigers hosted Wenonah on Friday night and it was the battle of the mature coaches: LC Cole against Ronald Cheatham. These guys are football smart and old school.
Fairfield started off lightning quick when Christian Smith threw to Darrien Evans for a 28-yard catch that went all the way down to the one-yard line. Then two plays later, Valandin Spencer scored the first TD of the game to make it 7-0.
After the score with 5 minutes left in the first quarter, the game went into a lightning delay for just under an hour.
When the action started back, Wenonah's Tyler Thornton picked off Christian Smith's pass and took it down to the 10-yard line. That drive stalled but later Tyler Thornton on another drive got the Dragons down to the 3-yard line.
Robinson scored two plays later, but the PAT was blocked. Then on the kickoff, Wenonah squib kicked and recovered the ball with 3 minutes left in the second quarter. Then Aubrey Robinson threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Armand Green to make it 14-7 at the half.
After the bands played, Wenonah Aubrey Robinson had a bad snap and the ball went into the end zone where Fairfield recovered for the score to tie it up at 14-14.
Late in the third, Robinson connected with Anthony Hudson on a 20-yard pass and then scored a 2 point conversion to make it 22-14.
Wenonah remains undefeated and moved to 4-0, while Fairfield is even at 1-1.
