Family mourns slain 3-year-old and Birmingham identify man found dead in his backyard

Good afternoon and Happy Labor Day from the desk of Janet Hall. Here are the stories we’re laboring on for WBRC FOX6 News this evening.

3-year-old shot and killed
Three adults are in custody after a 3-year-old boy was killed when someone opened fire on his father on Friday in Greene County. The little boy, Layton Cochran, was shot in the head after an apparent disagreement over selling a gun. We’ll have the latest on the investigation.

Man killed in Collegeville
Birmingham Police have identified a man found dead in his backyard Sunday night. James Brooks, 60, was pronounced dead on the scene. A woman was arrested, questioned and released. We continue to follow the investigation.

Moon Pie contest
It’s Labor Day and that means it’s time for a Moon Pie eating contest at Tannehill State Park. We’ll show you who won and we’ll even have a little contest of our own in the studio. Check it out at 5.
