BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - WBRC FOX6 News and AARP of Alabama are sponsoring two more Shred-a-Thons this year as a community service project to protect you and your family from identity theft.
This is your chance to bring old documents for us to shred for you. The best part - it's a free service!
We will also be accepting non-perishable food donations for local food banks.
Dates and locations are below:
7 a.m. - 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church located at 6471 US Highway 11
7 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Civic Center, just off I-59/20 near Academy Drive
LIMITS: You can bring up to three bags or three copy paper sized boxes of documents (paper only) to shred.
Types of documents experts recommend you shred include:
- Cancelled checks
- ATM and Credit card receipts
- Old credit cards
- Credit card offers
- Old bank statements
- Tax records and receipts (keep for 7 years)
- Medical records and bills (keep for a year)
- Pay stubs (keep for a year)
- ONLY BOXES AND BAGS OF PAPER WILL BE ACCEPTED.
